 MASN STRATEGIC PLAN 2008-2011
MISSION STATEMENT
THE MISSION OF THE MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL NURSES IS TO BE PROACTIVE IN ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE HEALTH OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH, TO PROMOTE OPTIMAL LEARNING IN THE EDUCATIONAL SETTING AND TO ADVANCE THE PRACTICE OF PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL NURSES.
GOAL I: MASN WILL PROMOTE THE professional development OF SCHOOL NURSING PRACTICE
To accomplish this goal, the MASN will:
- Provide educational opportunities for nurses, educators, legislators, parents and other key stakeholders regarding current and future issues and trends
- Clarify and promote the standards and guidelines of practice for professional school nurses developed at the state and national level
- Communicate current school nursing trends and issues with professional school nurses
- Encourage and support opportunities for research in school health which defines and validates the practice of school nursing
GOAL II: MASN WILL PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH AND SAFE CARE OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH
To accomplish this goal, the MASN will:
- Pursue the position of the Michigan State School Nurse Consultant.
- Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders holders at the local, and state level and national level
- Be the expert voice of information on school health services in Michigan
- Advocate for delivering safe school health services and funding to provide those services
- Maintain an active role in health related activities that affect children, youth, family and the community.
GOAL III: MASN WILL IDENTIFY THE STANDARD OF SCHOOL NURSING PRACTICE TO DELIVER QUALITY HEALTH SERVICES TO MICHIGAN CHILDREN AND YOUTH
To accomplish this goal the MASN will:
- Analyze models for delivery of care to children and youth in the school setting
- Develop a standard of care position statement for delivering safe school health services in Michigan.
- Using research and evidenced-based practice, identify additional priority areas that impact health care in the school setting
- Develop relevant practice guidelines reflecting current research and evidenced based practice
